I’m a self-taught photographer.
As a teenager I picked up a Kodak 155x Instamatic camera. Nowadays working with professional Nikon gear for decades.

Artist Statement

My family life, my professional life, my engagements with the world around me, all the experienced and lived sensations, gave me a place and purpose in life.

However, the context is constantly changing. I experience that with regard to my artistic view of life as well.

Jos Peters alias cpluzc

I am a self-taught photographer whose work explores the relationship between human progress and its results and consequences. My work focuses on the environment, the energy transition, and the growing influence of artificial intelligence (AI) on human decision-making within these contexts.

After my retirement, I chose to dedicate myself fully to photography as a critical and reflective medium. Through travel, I document landscapes, infrastructures, and human interventions in various regions of the world. These images are intended not only as documentation but also as a source of visual questions regarding responsibility, control, and long-term impact.

I work primarily with large formats and strive to create spaces for confrontation and reflection. With the enlarged scale of the prints, I want to invite viewers to slow down and delve into the complex entanglement of technology, the environment, and human behavior. In particular, I am interested in the positions of the Baby Boomer generation. Characterized by a strong work ethic, as consuming pleasure-seekers, loyally more individualistic, and focused on security and stability. But also active in the cultural and social changes of the 60s and 70s, and relatively financially strong due to the strong economic growth. How involved is this generation with issues such as environmental problems, the distribution of benefits and burdens, and job losses due to automation and AI?

The work I create is exhibited in local and regional exhibitions and presented via my own online platforms and gallery shop, as well as a select number of social media platforms.

I mostly work under the name cpluzc, which stands for cogito + conscientia – reason and conscience. Coming from a strong dominance of my rationality during my working life, I have strived for a better balance between the two over the past 20 years.

My photography equipment consists entirely of Nikon gear. Full-frame cameras Z8 and Z5, and in exceptional cases I still use my DSLR D300S. I have a wide selection of lenses, from fisheye, fixed focal length, and zoom to telephoto. Additionally, complete studio equipment with all types of lighting, props, and accessories.

Legacy

I am a Baby Boomer. So, walking around on Earth for a while. With quite a footprint by now. That regularly occupies my thoughts.

I have a responsibility in that.

In the autumn of my life

My contemporaries and I have been able to benefit from a tremendous economic growth. And by that I mean in the Western World. Meanwhile,there are emerging areas where prosperity is now being eagerly embraced.

Prosperity has profoundly changed the globe. The riches are not distributed equally over the earth, but likewise the defilements and devastations. What am I actually passing on to my descendants?

When I look back at my photographic work of the past 40 years, I become aware of my legacy. The grim realities, but also little gems. And it is precisely those beautiful little gems that now have my full attention.

From my legacy to my new challenge. Over time, it will become visible in my portfolio. It is wonderful to be working on this. In a dialogue with my descendants.

Art Work

I see so many appealing shapes, so many impressive color ensembles, I hear soothing sounds, invigorating music, I smell love and camaraderie, I revel in touching the naked skin of my beloved.

And sometimes I experience all of this in an Art Work.

I, the artist

Throughout my working life, I have been rationally creative. I now have a strong need to give expression to my emotional creativity. I have no idea where this will take me, it feels good and I share that with my loved ones.
